MY YARN WREATH

For some reason, I don't really get into decorating for the holidays. Maybe it's because it's such a busy time of year or maybe it's because we're always in Tennessee or at my mom's house. Anywho, I have found that I do like wreaths. As you can see here, I made a lovely spring wreath. So I decided to make a yarn wreath for the winter/holidays since my spring wreath wasn't season appropriate.

I had been seeing yarn wreaths everywhere and figured it would be fairly cheap & easy. I didn't take any process pictures because I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. But you can find a helpful tutorial here.

I used a 12 inch styrofoam form from Michael's and one spool of yarn. (do you call it a spool of yarn?) I wrapped the form with packing tape based on the recommendation of the tutorial and it was a huge help. Your yarn will be much more difficult to move around if you don't.

So it's really easy of you want to do a single color wreath, just tie the yarn around the form and wrap until covered. Then tie it again. I had to make it a little harder on myself by picking out a yarn that was multi colored. As you may or may not know, multi colored yarn changes color every 6 inches or so. That made achieving the stripes a little more complicated.

I finally decided to wrap the yarn around the form grouping like colors together. This means that I really spread out my wraps and then went back over again and again to fill in the gaps. It was going to take forever if I tried to cut the yarn and tie it on strand by strand. This way, I still had my continuous piece of yarn. I made sure to concentrate on making the front of the wreath nice and neat but I let the back do whatever.

I wanted to make adorable felt flowers to go on it too but I didn't have any felt or patience to wait until I got some to complete the project. So I just hot glued some glittered pine cones on and called it a day.

I am pretty pleased with my first try. Next time, I want to make one like this.
