MY LITTLE CITY

Yesterday, as I was strolling through my google reader, I saw this lovely little post about Decatur on Design*Sponge. Overall I thought it was accurate, there aren't very many places since Decatur is small, so pretty much all of them were mentioned. I was happy that 3 of my favorite places were on her list: Brick Store (fav bar), Watershed (fav restaurant) & Decatur Public Library (fav bookstore). BUT there were 2 places she didn't mention that I have to:

Kudzu Antiques: A Vintage Home Market. As you can see from the photos above, (taken from their site) they carry just about everything from antiques to collectibles to folk art. It is 25,000 square feet of shopping heaven. They rent out booths to dealers and they make each booth their own, giving each one it's own personality. I often scour this spacious market for photo shoot supplies and inspiration. Their items are fairly priced and there are many large pieces of furniture that I wish I could a) fit into my tiny condo and b) afford.

And Your DeKalb Farmers Market: I know what people think when you say Farmer's Market, it's a bunch of tents set up by local farmers selling their crops. We do have one of those every Wednesday that is just great but this isn't it.

This is 140,000 square feet of veggies, meat, cheeses, wine & beer and anything else you can imagine from all over the world. They bake their own bakery goods without preservatives, there is a hot bar and a salad bar every day of the week at a super reasonable price, they have fresh squeezed juices that actually taste like the fruit, they will make any nut butter you like while you wait, they sell flowers & arrangements and they have any spice you want for dirt cheap. (I'm talking .50 for 1 cup of dried anything)

I really can't say enough about this place. It is without a doubt my favorite place in Atlanta. I grocery shop there every week. The prices are low and I can get everything I need in one stop. The only draw back is finding a time when it's not overflowing with people.

  1. All my fav places too! I haven't been to Kudzu yet - but I think I need to go. I do have to add Leon's & Feast to your list.

  2. Carrie,

I have been to Leon's but not yet to Feast. Both are a little lacking in their vegetarian options :( so that's why!

  3. I'm ashamed to say that I live in Dunwoody but have yet to make it to the Dekalb Farmer's market since moving here in 2009! I do love Kudzu though, they always have so many great pieces!

  4. Oh Niki! The Farmer's Market is like 1/2 a mile past Kudzu. So the next time you go, just make a day of it!

  5. OMG! I went to visit my father last year and the Farmer's Market was the highlight of the trip. I would come back out there just to visit it again.

It was such a highlight that I had about $30.00 worth of foodstuff shipped to me in CA.

Definitely a reason for me to move to GA.

  6. Beatfreak,

The farmer's market would truly be a factor in whether I could move from Decatur or not. I'm not sure I could live without it!
