ART ON THE BELTINE

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and are enjoying the first day of summer. We entertained very good friends that we hadn't seen in over a year and took them to all of our favorite places in Atlanta. We also made the best pizza I've ever had which I will be sure to share later this week.

We were able to share with them one of the coolest things that I've ever seen in Atlanta. Art on the Beltline. The Beltline is "One of the most comprehensive economic development efforts ever undertaken in the City of Atlanta and the largest, most wide-ranging urban redevelopment currently underway in the U.S., the BeltLine will combine greenspace, trails, transit, and new development along 22 miles of historic rail segments that encircle the urban core. " Art on the Beltline is "a temporary art project that will place visual and performance art installations, as well as historic site interpretation, at different points along the corridor to draw the public onto the BeltLine as Atlanta’s new public realm. The exhibit will run from May through October of 2010."

My good friend Jenny Pittam who writes the blog Our Green Atlanta is a volunteer with the Beltline. We have been participating in the events and seeing the art for the past month. These include music in different parks around town including one under a bridge, walking the beltline and viewing the art and seeing performance art set on a stage with the city lit up in the background.

I really enjoy true and honest forms of expression and I really think that is what this is. We walked up on a wonderful wicker structure the other night that had a swing inside. When we approached it, someone came out and it happened to be the artist, wanting to converse with people viewing his art.

If you are in the area, it is not to be missed.
