WHAT DO YOU DO

when you just don't feel good enough? I read this post this morning and it spoke to me. Along with this interview, they got me thinking. Karin says that the hardest thing about having your own business is keeping the fire going. I totally agree. It feels great to be the one in charge making all the decisions, but it also feel insurmountable at times. Sometimes, you just want to hand over the responsibilities to someone else and crawl under the covers. And sometimes, the desire and creativity just isn't there. I think that I may still be a little hungover from the holidays. There is no space to be creative during that time, it is all make and do and ship. I need to get back into the habit of sketching and doodling. I'm not going to lie, this invitation line is killing me. I do have a strong desire to offer it up, but I am having the hardest time getting the creative juices flowing. I feel like everything I do is lame (for lack of a better word). So, I am glad that the weather is looking up. It's already spring here in the south and I think I need to sit outside, get my vitamin D and do some sketches. I'm going to put it on my to-do list and maybe I will start sharing them with you in order to get my butt in gear. thanks for listening.

  1. I know what you mean! Even though Im starting fresh, I will create something that I think is great, and then I see something similar somewhere else. IT is so hard to figure out the direction to go in, and I will finish something and feel like its lame too! Its hard to be your own boss. I love it but at the same time wish I had someone to say. Maybe move that left, or thats terrible, or thats great! I think creating an invite line is one of the hardest too because its so personal you want something to appeal to most tastes! You work is wonderful though and Im very excited to see the new line!

  2. I don't normally comment on blogs but I want to say thank you for this post. I follow your blog and always think 'I wish it was that easy for me' (to be so creative!) So its nice to see I'm not alone!

  3. i dont know how you get your creative juices going but i've found that it's very refreshing and motivating to look at something that always inspires me (e.g. book of illustrated birds, anthro catalog, wedding gown photos, etc.), whatever that may be, and just start sketching and thinking about the things i could possibly make or do or whatever. and then i start creating all these lists of the choice of colors, papers, and other materials i could hypothetically purchase for the products in mind. etc. etc. i just get into this whirlwind rush of excitement at all the possibilities. all the while recognizing that most of the projects will probably never see fruition but it makes me happy to be using that creative side of my brain and it makes me happy again to be doing something artistic and i see it as an exercise, like practicing our abc's and tying our shoelaces.

so, yes, i agree. maybe it's high time you sat out in the sun (but not for too long!) with some lemonade or what have you and just let inspiration get the better of you and make you giggly with happiness!

  4. I couldn't agree more. I'm trying to keep myself motivated, and sometimes I think we need the help of our friends to give us a push. At least it's beautiful out. :)
