FIND SPACE

to complete your work.

I myself started and still run my business out of my home. It is such a great way to save money when you are first getting started. I am lucky to have a 2nd bedroom which is my office which I share with my husband. I know that everyone does not have the luxury of a home office, but I believe that it is vital to the growth of your business to set aside space that is dedicated to only your business.

Even if it is a small corner or just a desk or even a closet that you are able to turn into a small office, having a place devoted to your work will keep you organized. And more importantly, it can help you keep the separation between home life & work life that so many work-from-homers have trouble with. This way, you can communicate with the people that you live with that your space dedicated for your business is not to be used for anything else. This will ensure that your business tools are always where they are supposed to be.

I also know that many of you may be sharing a family computer or desk. If this in the case, you could set up folders just for the business and password protect what you need to stay safe & un-touched. You could get a cheap set of drawers and have them be for just the business so other items don't get mixed in. I am a firm believer of "a place for everything and everything in it's place." Now, that's not to say that my studio doesn't get messy when things get hectic, but it makes it so much easier and quicker to clean up when I'm ready.

This is really the first step to making your business it's own entity. I will be talking more about this topic later on.
