GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

Let me preface this tip with a confession. I think this is a very important tip that I myself am not very good at.

There are so many aspects of running a company, some that are in line with you and your talents and some that are not. But as a business owner, you don't have the luxury of just ignoring the things you don't like or are not good at.

I will now expand on my confession at the risk of letting you all know that I am not perfect. My Achilles heel is pr, marketing, sales & getting the word out. It is not only that I have no training in this area, but my personality is such that I keep to myself. I have a hard time tooting my own horn and talking my products up. I know this is common theme among people that consider themselves artists. We tend to think that our work should speak for itself.

As you know, I can't just bury my head in the sand a refuse to market myself. I have to get out of my comfort zone in order for my company to succeed.

The other option is to hire someone else to do this for me. This is a valid option since sometimes we just can't make the leap ourselves.

I urge you to take an honest look at yourself and your company and identify the weaknesses so that you can do what you need to do to fix it.

This tip ties into next week's tip "Play to your strengths"
